Johnson County, Iowa has been designated as the fourth HeartSafe Community in the United States!




What is a HeatSafe Community?
HeartSafe Community designation is a set of criteria and guidelines designed to improve outcomes to sudden cardiac arrest emergencies through a specific set of training, preparation and response protocols and includes:
- Creating a community plan for the collection and analysis of cardiac arrest data;
- Providing widespread CPR instruction;
- Public access to AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators);
- Aggressive resuscitation protocols for first responders and area hospitals;
- PulsePoint – AED registry, public awareness and encouragement of bystander intervention;
- Effective emergency response plans in schools;
- 911 dispatch-assisted CPR instruction.
